Joint Animal Services in Olympia reported a busy 2025 with a 27.5% rise in animal intake (4,212 animals received), 3,392 calls and major cruelty investigations including a cockfighting case with over 500 chickens.
Volunteers grew to 248 and staff secured $1 million in state capital for a new facility.
🏛️ Government
Crews are installing storm drains on Fones Road north of Woodland Trail to prevent floods and protect water quality with nighttime work from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Feb.
13 and daytime work near Home Depot through March — motorists are urged to use other routes during the project.
