City Gates Ministries was founded by Phil Prietto in 1995 to unite different churches in serving the local poor with a weekly Street Lights event held every Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the corner of State and Franklin streets — the program offers meals and supplies, recorded over 20,000 volunteer hours in 2024, and now faces rising demand for food, health care, and job training.
