EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, Olympia School District has opened the application for new student board representatives for the 2025-26 school year, accepting applications until April 6. The district will hold an informational session via Zoom at 4 p.m.—interviews will occur April 14—18, with representative introductions on April 24 and a swearing-in on May 22. JOLT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, April 4, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Thurston County Stream Team will host a hands-on Stream Bug Monitoring Training at South Puget Sound Community College where kids aged 7 and older learn to test water quality by examining samples from Percival Creek — afterward, participants will join volunteer creek assessments to check habitat health. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, March 25, contract lobbyist Nick Frederici presented legislative proposals that would give local governments more flexibility to raise funds for public safety, housing and community services. The proposals include measures to modify the property tax cap and create new revenue streams (allowing increases up to 3%) while state lawmakers aim to finalize policies by mid-April (with the session ending April 27).
