  • The Sequoia Assisted Living in Olympia will host its Spring Showcase Open House on April 5 from noon to 5 p.m. Visitors can tour model apartments, meet staff, enjoy appetizers and live music from Prairie Fire Band (3 to 4 p.m.), and receive free assessments of care needs.  ThurstonTalk

CRIME NEWS

  • A male motorist was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after his vehicle hit two cars in the Olive Garden parking lot at Capital Mall on Thursday, March 27 — police said he suffered lacerations when he fell from the vehicle.  JOLT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A proposed Chick-fil-A restaurant on Martin Way in Olympia will need infrastructure improvements after the review committee met on March 26. The developers must update roadways—improve sidewalks, add parking and bike spaces—and complete a traffic study before work can begin.  JOLT
  • A Washington Senate committee advanced a bill that sets stricter emissions standards for transportation fuels, though critics worry it may cost more for gas—sparking a debate between cleaner air and higher fuel prices. The bill now heads to the Senate Ways and Means Committee for further review.  FOX13
  • The Port of Olympia Citizens Advisory Committee is checking plans to bring back a passenger-only ferry service in Olympia as part of its 2025 work plan. Members met with the Port Commission on March 24 to talk about House Bill 1923—if the bill passes, the port will work with other areas to set up ferry routes.  JOLT
