ECONOMY NEWS

  • Olympia Community Solar is offering free home assessments through its Solarize Thurston program to help local residents install solar panels with discounted pricing before July 4th. The nonprofit works with vetted local installers and credit providers (Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union) to lower future energy bills.  ThurstonTalk

EDUCATION NEWS

  • O Bee Credit Union announced a $50,000 scholarship endowment for South Puget Sound Community College students in the craft brewing & distilling program, with funds set to generate a yearly $2,000 award through 2027 starting in 2025. The initiative supports local students and builds on the credit union's long history with the local brewing industry.  JOLT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Olympia city planners proposed changes to neighborhood center policies that include clearer zoning guidance and a system for small-scale commercial areas. Senior Planner David Ginther said the proposal may remove three centers—Kellerman's Korner, Yauger and Capital Mall Drive, and Cooper Point and Evergreen Park Drive—to streamline development.  JOLT
