CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A video shows 27 year old Damien Madison firing an AR15 at a deputy's patrol car and throwing a chainsaw and other items during a pursuit in Thurston County on May 12th, leaving the windshield shattered while deputies continue searching for him (with a criminal record of 10 felony convictions) and a reward of 1,000 dollars (for tips leading to his arrest). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Bob Ferguson signed the BEAM Act into law on Monday, May 12—he signed it to crack down on reckless speeding across the state. FOX13
- ➤ Mayor Debbie Sullivan announced on April 15 that Jay Mason will become the new chief of police for Tumwater effective July 1—Mason joined the department in 1993—and will focus on community safety in his new role. ThurstonTalk
- ➤ Gov. Bob Ferguson signed House Bill 1596, known as the BEAM Act, yesterday at 2 p.m. at the Capitol, which requires installing intelligent speed assistance devices in vehicles driven by individuals with suspended licenses for reckless speeding—modeled after ignition interlock devices to hold dangerous drivers accountable and honor victims of fatal crashes. - ➤ On May 9, the Artemis EF-12 Escape, a 39-foot water taxi powered by 100% electric power, arrived at the Port of Olympia for a demonstration attended by local dignitaries including Mayor Dontae Payne and Commission President Jasmine Vasavada—guests took a brief ride on the low-noise hydrofoil vessel across Budd Inlet. Vasavada said that if local governments develop a financing plan, electric ferry service will be feasible within five years—marking a potential new option for regional water travel. JOLT
