COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This weekend, Thurston County hosts family-friendly events including the Olympia Youth Social on Saturday May 17 from 1 to 3 p.m., free historic downtown tours in honor of Preservation Month, and live music on Sunday May 18 with Music in the Park and the SOGO Spring Concert—while the Lacey Spring Fun Fair offers rides, vendors and food over May 17 and 18—giving local families many choices.  JOLT

CRIME NEWS

  • FBI agents arrested 27-year-old Damien Madison near the California state line after he shot more than a dozen rounds from a stolen AR-15 at a deputy during a high-speed chase — his 20-year-old fiancé Americus Lee Wilson has been detained and Madison faces an extradition hearing today.  FOX13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Olympia warned on May 13 that its sanctuary city status might risk up to $11.9M in public works funding, including $9.5M for the Fones Road project and key emergency medical services. City officials said they will use local funds—such as TBD reserves, tax dollars, and fees—to continue the project, which may delay other work by two to four years.  JOLT
  • Washington Gov. Ferguson signed an immigration protection law that gives immigrants new work protections and the measures will go into effect July 1 — the decision follows ongoing efforts to strengthen workplace rights —.  FOX13
