11-year-old Girl Scout Scarlett Skillman will lead a free Griffin School Battery Take-Back event on May 28 from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., which offers safe battery disposal tips in partnership with the National Waste and Recycling Association + Woodsy Owl as she competes for the Girl Scout Silver Award.

The city allocated $350,000 from the Lee Creighton Justice Center sale to fund planning and design for relocating Yashiro Japanese Garden (honoring a Sister City relationship) as the garden closes at 1010 Plum St. on June 1; staff are assessing plants and will seek a design firm later this year.
