- ➤ WSECU opened an innovative branch in Hawks Prairie—built with flexible spaces from member feedback—to offer local in-person banking services such as a walk-up ATM operating 24 hours, a coin machine, night drop, notary and free parking at its Lacey location. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Shoestring Circus will come to Olympia in June to perform The Museum—a playful, high-flying tribute to art in motion—under a big top tent next to Swantown Marina with daily shows on June 27-29 and July 3-6. The 90-minute performance includes a 15-minute break and offers food concessions and local merchandise. JOLT
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local residents have less than two weeks to join the Energize Thurston program that offers free or discounted heat pump installations using group purchase savings—applications close on May 31 while the last in-person workshop runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 26. JOLT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Ferguson signed the School Emergency Response Bill — which requires schools to update safety plans with features like panic buttons and real-time mapping for first responders — following longtime advocacy by Lori Alhadeff after she lost her daughter in a school shooting. FOX13
- ➤ Olympia’s Land Use and Environment Committee is scheduled to review tenant screening options on May 22 to strengthen renter protections and improve access to affordable housing after a March 11 study guided staff recommendations. The committee will examine measures such as background and credit checks that have impacted low-income renters and protected groups (studies indicate a significant barrier in securing housing). JOLT
