- ➤ Saint Martin’s University associate professor Andrea Kunder received a National Science Foundation grant to study how groups of stars break apart — she is working with teachers from Seattle University, Western Washington University, and the College of Idaho, and her team will produce four to six science papers featuring work from promising students. - ➤ Seniors from Capital High and Olympia High competed at the Thurston County Courthouse in the 2025 Law Day Speech Contest, where they debated a 14th Amendment provision on birthright citizenship. Alijah Manzanares won first place, Monica Peddi placed second and Alice Hillier placed third—scholarships and plaques were awarded to the finalists. JOLT

- ➤ At its May 19 meeting, Olympia’s Finance Committee approved a $20 million bond sale to fund Hands On Children's Museum’s expansion to ease crowding and boost programs. The $30.5 million project will use $20.5 million in public funds + $10 million raised by the museum and will double exhibit space+ add new learning areas. JOLT
