GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Ferguson signed a $77.9 billion budget on May 21 that tackles a multi-billion dollar funding gap — using new taxes and spending cuts — to secure steady state finances. FOX13
- ➤ On May 19, the Port of Olympia Commission reviewed next steps for the Waterfront Center after relocating administrative offices to a former Dancing Goats Coffee building near the marine terminal—commissioner Mike Reid proposed a solicitation of interest, an RFP process, or using a broker to lease the property. Commissioners Jasmine Vasavada and Amy Evans Harding expressed contrasting views on the best option, and further discussion will resume at an upcoming work session to set policy for the project. JOLT
- ➤ The Olympia City Council approved a new permit fee grant program to reduce development costs for affordable housing projects using $500,000 from the Economic Development Fund. Projects serving households at or below 50% of area median income will receive full permit fee coverage — and those serving households between 51-80% will receive partial coverage — with the program set for review after two years.
