CULTURE NEWS

  • Olympia Zine Fest 2025 will take place from May 30 to 31—showcasing handmade zines, creative workshops and live performances for local art enthusiasts. Special events include a Zine-a-thon at Olympia Timberland Library on May 30 and a dance party at Decay on May 31.  JOLT
  • Many cultural events will take place this weekend with activities in both Olympia and Tumwater. In Olympia, an Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Celebration runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a Teachings of the Water Concert runs from 3 to 4 p.m.—Tumwater hosts a Cultural Night Market from 4 to 8 p.m. while Olympia also offers Spoilers: A Timey Wimey Doctor Who Inspired Cabaret Experience from 7:30 to 10 p.m. and The Power of a Peaceful Mind on Sunday from 10 to 11:15 a.m.  JOLT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Olympia City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance that will reshape the Capital Mall Triangle area into an urban neighborhood with new building height limits, parking rules & a traffic trip cap. The ordinance, presented at a meeting on May 20, will allow more mixed uses and public spaces to be built & aims to streamline future development reviews.  JOLT
  • Intercity Transit ratified a new contract with the bus drivers union on May 21 after lengthy wage disputes led to a vote of 196 to 2 following negotiations that began in November 2024. The agreement will apply retroactively from January 1 through the end of 2027 and offers wage increases, longevity pay, a family and wellness allowance, increased deferred compensation and additional paid leave.  JOLT
