  • TOGETHER! and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington have joined forces for the BIG Swing TOGETHER Fore Kids Tournament — a golf event set for August 21 at Tumwater Valley Golf Course in Tumwater — to raise funds that support local youth programs.  ThurstonTalk

BUSINESS NEWS

  • ThurstonTalk is looking for freelance writers to share positive stories about local businesses, artists and community members in Thurston County—applicants must meet deadlines and show photo and interview skills. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saint Martin’s University in Lacey launched the Saints Mentor with Heart program (a peer mentoring initiative) last fall to pair first-year students with upperclassmen mentors and help them navigate campus life. Administrators said the program, introduced at summer orientation (supporting first-generation students), will build community and strengthen essential skills.  ThurstonTalk

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At its May 20 meeting, the Olympia City Council declared May as Heritage Month to honor the work of historic preservation that boosts local culture & economy. The Heritage Commission has led walking tours and oral history interviews and will host a public event on June 3 to grow community ties & share local stories.  JOLT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Izabelle Trefts of The Evergreen State College placed second in the 5,000-meter race walk on May 22 at the 2025 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships—she completed the race in 23:22.79 and earned her second All-American honor this year.  ThurstonTalk
