Good morning, Olympia. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 4th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Marcus Williams, who became homeless about a year ago after parking his van near Percival Landing, said he kept the area clean and was told he could stay until his van was towed on Feb. 3, taking his belongings and cat. He has repeatedly asked City Hall for help to recover his van but received no support — he now heads to the Olympia Union Gospel Mission — feeling overlooked by officials.  JOLT

CRIME NEWS

  • Two suspect military members linked to Nazi white nationalist groups were arrested on Monday after FBI SWAT agents raided a Lacey address and seized over 35 military weapons including grenade launchers, explosives, and body armor—both are held on multiple firearm-related charges with $500,000 bail and may face further federal charges.  FOX13
  • Thurston County detectives are asking the public for any tips on five cold cases—one involving Michelle Dickerman’s 2001 disappearance near Fred Meyer in Lacey, Jennifer Vawter Patterson’s 2013 remains on the Nisqually Reservation, Karen Bodine’s 2007 body found near Rochester, Logan Schiendelman’s 2016 disappearance near Tumwater, and Dana Presley’s 2021 homicide in Olympia—and request that anyone with information contact the Cold Case Unit.  FOX13
  • Three alleged accomplices of a Thurston County fugitive will enter their pleas in court—authorities report the individuals are accused of helping the wanted suspect.  FOX13

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At a June 2 meeting, Olympia climate officials said the city’s plan is off track to meet its 2030 and 2040 emissions targets because transportation—the largest contributor at 34% (with rising vehicle miles traveled)—is hindering progress. They noted that more aggressive measures like promoting electric vehicle use and denser development will be needed and asked residents to give feedback on the draft plan by June 20.  JOLT
  • The Mima Mounds Natural Area Preserve near Olympia offers three walking trails—one paved half-mile loop for ADA access and two gravel paths for birdwatching and exploring the unique mounds. Visitors need a Discover Pass for parking, with free 15-minute spots available for a quick visit.  ThurstonTalk

SPORTS NEWS

  • South Puget Sound Community College hired Emme Price as its new head volleyball coach. Price played at SUNY Potsdam and previously coached at SUNY Plattsburgh and Nichols College — her teams won championships — and she aims to guide the team to a stronger postseason run with a focus on individual growth this season.  JOLT
