  • United Way of Thurston County named J. CRIME NEWS

  • A high-speed chase on I-5 ended when Tumwater police arrested Kalin W. Laing on May 26 after he forcibly stole a van from a couple at a 7-Eleven parking lot and threatened to shoot them (he now faces charges including robbery, vehicle theft, hit-and-run and assault).  JOLT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Puget Sound Community College trustee Doug Mah was awarded the 2024—25 Trustee Leadership Award on May 22 by the Washington State Association of College Trustees for his tireless work advocating for students and college governance; he was chosen from 170 trustees statewide.  JOLT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, June 3, the Olympia City Council approved creating a full-time assistant to manage emails, meetings, drafting correspondence, policy research and tracking inquiries—tasks that will help balance the workload of council members. The job is budgeted at about $165,000 a year, and the city will post the listing on Monday, June 9, with interviews set for late July.  JOLT
