CULTURE NEWS

  • On Tuesday, June 3, the Olympia City Council approved $1.3M in grants to help 60 local arts and heritage groups through the Inspire Olympia program. The money—mostly from cultural access tax revenue—will support school programs and offer funding choices for both established and emerging organizations.  JOLT
  • Mike Marohn, an Olympia native, keeps classic rock alive as he curates playlists of famous songs on 94.5 ROXY FM and Olympia’s Classic Rock 100.3 FM—he started his career with a hands-on approach in radio. Jes Wes hosts the morning show on 100.3 from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.—he says local radio helps small businesses grow and connects the community.  JOLT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Volunteer organizers will hold a protest in Olympia on June 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Washington Capitol Tivoli Fountain South Lawn sponsored by Olympia Indivisible—this event is part of the nationwide 'No Kings' protest against authoritarian actions and aims to draw thousands of participants.  JOLT

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Rookery is a new eco-friendly mixed-use building in Tumwater offering four apartments, two penthouse suites and a 1,000-square-foot office space, with tours starting in late June and move-ins on July 1. It was built as a net-zero passive house for high energy efficiency and community comfort — featuring shared outdoor spaces and a location just 10 minutes from downtown Olympia.  ThurstonTalk

SPORTS NEWS

  • Three Evergreen State College athletes and one assistant coach were honored at the Thurston County Sports Awards on June 4 at South Puget Sound Community College — Emmanuel Nicasio won Men’s Collegiate Sports Star of the Year and Alauna Carstens was named Women’s Collegiate Sports Star of the Year — while John Lane received the Sports Contributor of the Year award.  ThurstonTalk
