GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Transportation Policy Board tabled a proposal to remove the Log Cabin Road extension from the long-range transportation plan during a meeting on June 11, as regional leaders requested more time for city councils to confer and complete a traffic study. Officials said the study, set around 2030, will examine impacts—especially on Yelm Highway—and the board will revisit the decision in July.  JOLT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Olympia Therapy is offering free summer guidance in its eight‑week Playful Wisdom program to help parents balance expectations and let children learn responsibility by managing small tasks. Local therapist Cary Hamilton advises that parents allow kids to face natural consequences instead of rescuing them immediately—offering a new way to reduce family stress amid busy schedules and financial concerns.  ThurstonTalk

SPORTS NEWS

  • Evergreen State College finished 109th in the final 2024-25 Learfield Directors’ Cup standings released on June 10, earning 143 points from NAIA postseason events in women’s indoor track, wrestling, and outdoor track. Izabelle Trefts set a school record in the 3,000-meter race walk and she and teammate Alauna Carstens were named All-Americans—marking a strong season for the team.  ThurstonTalk
