  • TCMedia is set to hold its grand re-opening and ribbon cutting on Saturday, June 21 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Studio A in Olympia—new co-executive directors Martha Correa and Tamara Erazo will introduce a co-leadership model and launch a Sustainable Partners Business Circle designed to support local media.  ThurstonTalk

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washington Center for the Performing Arts announced Gabriel Kendall from Tumwater High School and Michael Miller from Timberline High School as the 2025 Anacker Scholarship for the Arts winners, which will support local students studying music and the arts. Kendall will study Music Education while Miller plans to pursue Vocal & Piano Performance in the fall.  ThurstonTalk

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Olympia City Council held a study session on June 12 to weigh shifting municipal court services to Thurston County while Judge Pam Nogueira urged keeping the court in the city as a move to cut costs and preserve local programs—she noted a county change would cost over $6 million versus about $2.9 million to repair city spaces. The council is now weighing plans to use City Hall and 108 State Ave for the renewed court space, and a final decision will come amid ongoing budget and control concerns—officials say community needs remain at the core.  JOLT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Olympia Area Rowing is competing at the U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships this week in Sarasota, Florida — the team’s boys quad, girls double and girls single boats earned spots by finishing in the top four at regional meets, while head coach Victoria Tkacz said the athletes practiced six days a week to prepare for the event — ensuring they balance school and training.  JOLT
  • Sadie McKune, a North Thurston High School senior, won the 2025 High School Sports Star Award - Girls Sports from the Olympia & Beyond Sports Commission at an awards banquet held on June 4 and was honored alongside nominees from other area schools. Longtime Timberline High School track coach Bob Atwell also received the Thurston County Sports Legend Award for his 40 years of service.  JOLT
