- ➤ Seldens Designer Home Furnishings will host an exhibition showcasing works by 16 women artists from Women Painters of Washington at its Olympia showroom at 220 Legion Way SE on Saturday, June 21 from 1–5 p.m. as part of the Artistry of the Pacific Northwest series. JOLT
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ On June 16th, Olympia’s Finance Committee approved a revised draft of the Economy Chapter of the 2045 Comprehensive Plan—updated with public input and recommendations to boost job training, housing, and business support—and will forward it to the city council for review. JOLT
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At a June 12 meeting, the Olympia School District Board and Superintendent Patrick Murphy revived talks about closing schools to balance the budget, with district staff considering closures over the next three years that could save over $1 million per elementary school and add $2 million in revenue. Previous discussions in 2023 were halted by a 2024 court ruling and dropped in April, but the board is now revisiting closures as part of its broader budget plan. JOLT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Port of Olympia will issue a request for qualifications to seek developers for the Waterfront Center project on Marine Drive after a June 16 commission meeting. The Port will accept proposals for either a single building or the entire site — a market test to gauge interest — as it refines plans for marina office improvements. JOLT
