CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Damien Madison was accused of firing an AR-15 at Thurston County deputies during a pursuit — he was captured at the California-Nevada border and now faces life in prison. FOX13
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Olympia Arts & Heritage Alliance Museum will hold a ribbon cutting on Friday, June 27 at 3:30 p.m. followed by a free grand opening on Saturday, June 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 203 Columbia St. NW where exhibits will display local art, history and a detailed scale model of a historic tugboat. - ➤ On June 20, the West Olympia Rotary dedicated the 'Life is Water' carving by Squaxin Island Tribe artist Taylor Krise at West Bay Park to mark its 50th anniversary—local leaders and community groups participated in the ceremony featuring a drum circle and traditional dancers. The artwork is meant to remind residents to protect local waterways and celebrate indigenous heritage. ThurstonTalk
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Kelli Braseth, who served as Olympia's Strategic Communications Director for 10 years, announced her retirement at a city council meeting on June 17+ her last day will be at the end of June. City Manager Jay Burney and council members praised her work in launching a city TV channel and creating outreach programs. JOLT
- ➤ On June 18, Intercity Transit awarded a $4.6 million contract to Hyfluence Systems Corp for a hydrogen fueling station at its Pattison Street base in Olympia—$3.17 million of which covers the fueling facility and related services—and will support the production of five hydrogen fuel cell electric buses; the station will be ready in 13 months and start a five-year maintenance agreement that may be renewed annually.
