GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Olympia is seeking a qualified consultant to study the impact and feasibility of proposed labor and wage policies for a potential Workers' Bill of Rights—this study will review local economic data and small business feedback. Submissions are due by July 18 at 5 p.m. and the six-month study aims to provide evidence-based policy options.  JOLT
  • The City of Olympia will host a public meeting via Zoom from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 2 to present updates to the Land Use and Urban Design chapter of the Olympia 2045 Comprehensive Plan—residents can ask questions and share comments.  JOLT
  • The Olympia City Council is exploring new revenue options and possible service cuts to address a $4 million shortfall in the 2026 budget after using reserves to balance the 2025 budget (the council is considering measures like tax adjustments, reallocation of capital funds, and changes to retirement contributions). Members stressed the need to keep public safety services intact as they plan for funding shifts and alternative strategies.  JOLT
