- ➤ On June 23, Thurston County deputies arrested 31-year-old Nicole Lynn Hess near WinCo Foods on Martin Way East when they identified her parked black Ford Ranger as stolen from Seattle—searches of her and the vehicle uncovered drug paraphernalia and a prescription pill bottle. JOLT

- ➤ On Saturday, July 12, the Olympia Dragon Boat Club will host the Dragon Boat Festival at Olympia Port Plaza where 30 teams will race a 250-meter course starting at 8:30 a.m. The festival features local vendor booths and performers — such as a lion dance and food trucks — while honoring the tradition that remembers Qu Yuan. - ➤ Intercity Transit is carrying out a year-long plan to redesign its bus system for Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater and Yelm. - ➤ Olympia ended its Municipal Court and transferred court operations to Thurston County starting July 1 using an interlocal agreement that the City Council considered on Tuesday, July 8, funded by $2.7 million from the general fund and $736,000 from a property sale—sparking concerns over local control. Judge Larson warned the move risks legal challenges for potential voting rights violations and extra costs exceeding $920,000—threatening 166 years of municipal justice. JOLT
