- ➤ Republic Services sanitation workers in Thurston County walked off the job on Wednesday after planning the action—officials have not said if service schedules will be affected. FOX13
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Evergreen Valley Lavender Farm in Olympia will host its final Lavender Fest on July 12 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) as longtime owners Thane and Peggy Bryenton face health challenges after 13 years of seasonal events. The farm will hold a closing weekend (July 18 and 19) and the Bryentons said they might reopen or transfer operations if their health improves. ThurstonTalk

- ➤ Thurston County commissioners approved a temporary ban on yard waste burning and all land clearing burns in unincorporated areas due to hot, dry conditions & the ban began July 9 and will run until Tuesday, September 30. Recreational campfires remain allowed on private residences and official campgrounds if built within an approved fire ring & devices like gas, pellet, and propane grills continue to be permitted. - ➤ On July 8, interagency fire crews used heavy helicopters and ground teams to contain the human-caused Bear Gulch Fire—burning 3,328 acres near Lake Cushman with water drops limiting eastern spread to five acres. Crews closed key recreation sites including the Staircase Area and campgrounds to protect egress—no evacuations have been issued. ThurstonTalk

- ➤ On July 9, the Olympia City Council approved a resolution for an interlocal agreement to transfer judicial services to Thurston County District Court, which will dissolve the Olympia Municipal Court by early 2026.
