- ➤ On July 6, a 20-year-old woman was arrested by Olympia police after she punched another woman in a parking lot on Franklin Street NE, leaving her with a broken wrist and possible broken nose. The suspect, Jarah Brenda Humphrey, is scheduled for arraignment on July 22 in Thurston County Superior Court—she has denied the charges. JOLT

- ➤ The Port of Olympia plans to create a huge mural on the marine terminal warehouse that has not been repainted since 1985. Port Director Mike Reid said—the project, in partnership with the Olympia Art Space Alliance and led by local artist Joe Seymour, will begin in August with two murals planned this year and three next year. - ➤ Parent-run nonprofit organization OSD4All hosted a forum at the Capitol Theater on July 12 to introduce candidates vying for Olympia School District Board seats. - ➤ Fire crews are battling the Bear Gulch Fire burning in the Olympic National Forest 10 miles northwest of Hoodsport—covering 445 acres with 18% containment as heavy equipment clears brush along FS-2419 and the Mt. Ellinor trail. NF Road 2400 remains closed at mile marker 10.5 to ensure public safety while a helicopter makes water drops and residents near the fire may see intermittent smoke with warmer weather expected. - ➤ Today, Olympia City Council will receive a briefing from Assistant City Manager Stacey Ray on a resident-driven Workers' Bill of Rights initiative petition led by United Food and Commercial Workers Local 367—this plan proposes new labor standards including a $20 minimum wage for large employers and safety measures for workplaces. If verified signatures meet the threshold, the council must file a ballot title by Aug. 5 to advance the measure toward a November public vote. JOLT
