- ➤ On Saturday, July 19, hundreds of runners participated in the Olympia Lakefair Races, which included a 3K, an 8K and the half-marathon renamed the Jerry Miller Half Marathon to honor the former coach battling Parkinson’s disease—funds raised will support the Rotary Club and local high school track and cross-country programs. Thousands later gathered at Heritage Park for the Capital Lakefair Grand Parade at 5 p.m. JOLT

- ➤ During the hard times of the Great Depression in Olympia, the Capitol Theater started a Mickey Mouse Club for kids under 12 in January 1930 to offer free Saturday matinees. The club had its first meeting on May 10 and grew to over 1,500 members by October—local businesses helped by offering prizes and fun contests. ThurstonTalk
