- ➤ Families in Thurston County can enjoy many outdoor events this weekend, including the 58th annual Oregon Trail Days festival in Tenino from July 25 to 27, a free Story Hour at Olympia Farmers Market today from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and a Concert & Movie at the Park in Lacey from 7 p.m. Additional celebrations feature YWCA Olympia's 80th birthday party from 4 to 7 p.m., a comedy show in Olympia from 8 to 10 p.m., and a block party for New Life Baptist Church from 12 to 3 p.m. — all planned to bring the community together. - ➤ Residents in Olympia urged city officials to rethink changes to the Comprehensive Plan’s Land Use and Urban Design chapter after a public meeting on July 21 showed worries that a new urban residential zone may replace older homes with multi-unit buildings and small offices. The Planning Commission said they will discuss the plan further on Aug. 4—neighbors want clear rules to protect housing and community character. JOLT
