The City of Olympia has launched a grant program offering up to $5,000 for youth-led environmental projects during the 2026-27 school year, with applications open until Sept.
15. A free brainstorming event is scheduled at Harbor House on Aug. 27 (4-6 p.m.).

On July 29, the Olympia Site Plan Review Committee reviewed a nonprofit's proposal to convert a vacant veterinary clinic at 902 Union Ave SE into transitional housing for 10-15 residents; the plan offers support services and may qualify for affordable housing incentives while incurring an estimated $16,000 in additional sewer charges.

Bettergoods pistachio nut butter sold at Walmart was recalled in Washington (and 18 other states) after a Florida inspection detected salmonella on July 17; customers were urged to discard or return the product.
