Olympia City Council declared 2025 the Year of Cooperatives at a special meeting on Aug.
4 to honor local co-ops for keeping jobs and growing the economy. The proclamation highlighted successes like Blue Heron Bakery's job gains and praised groups such as NWCDC and South Sound Cooperatives for their support.
In the Aug. 5th primary election, candidates in Olympia, Tumwater, Yelm and Thurston County advanced to the Nov.
4 General Election—overall turnout was 17.78 percent with strong vote counts in several races. Meanwhile, a Lacey measure to fund parks was rejected by 4,052 voters to 3,388 and two other local propositions passed—one for fire protection and one for recreation.
