COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the Olympia City Council meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 14, YWCA co-Executive Director Alli Ewing said the organization, which celebrated its 80th anniversary and now serves three times as many youths than last year, may not survive next year due to a severe funding shortfall—she urged the community to provide support and advocacy. Council members and Mayor Pro Tem Yen Huynh expressed concern and are exploring additional ways to help the group as it faces financial challenges.  JOLT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Miss Washington 2025 Amber Pike got $28,000 in scholarships to help her study business and aid asthma care in Olympia — she uses the funds to build her skills. Miss Washington’s Teen Kendall Runyan earned over $240,000 for her reading program and will use the money for school and to get ready for the Miss America’s Teen pageant in September.  ThurstonTalk
