GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 18, city officials explained that a spending freeze and improved sales tax revenue raised Olympia’s fund balance to $4.5 million above its 10% reserve, up from $2 million at the start of the year. They warned that rising jail costs may strain funds and said they will update future estimates—tracking permit shortfall and sales tax recovery—while planning for a 4% revenue boost in 2026. JOLT
