Thurston County authorities announced that skeletal remains found near Meadows Elementary School in 2009 have been identified as Donald Myrel Nelson—he was reported missing in 1989 and investigators are still looking into his death.

Olympia’s Land Use and Environment Committee recommended no changes to the city’s rental housing code on August 28, keeping tenant protections that exceed state rules on rent increases.
