CULTURE NEWS

  • Olympia City Council endorsed 'Crane Study Number 47' by Travis Pond as the 2025 People’s Choice Award winner for the Percival Plinth Project with 519 ballots cast in July. The repurposed steel sculpture received 142 votes—outpacing the runner-up which got 133 votes—and will be shown at City Hall for a year before moving to another location.  JOLT

  • The nonprofit Olympia Education Foundation announced a free event called Rise & Shine for Students! on Oct. 3 at Capital High School Performing Arts Center to support urgent student needs by highlighting the Principal’s Emergency Fund. The event will include a short program with school staff and offer pastries & coffee to honor those who have helped students succeed.  ThurstonTalk

  • The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced 47 tentative days for razor clam digs at four coastal beaches starting October 6 through January 6—openings depend on final toxin tests and each digger is limited to 15 clams.  ThurstonTalk
