- ➤ Comcast employee volunteers joined active duty service members, veterans and local leaders last Friday at the 63rd Annual Thurston County Foofaraw held at Budd Inlet—where nearly 400 military guests enjoyed games, socializing and a salmon BBQ. - ➤ Jonathan Evison, a New York Times bestselling author, will speak at the Les Bailey Writers Series on October 15 at 7 p.m. at the Norman Worthington Conference Center at Saint Martin’s University—this free event will feature a reading, a book signing and a chance for the audience to hear his stories of Olympia’s punk rock scene. - ➤ Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs said on Good Day Seattle that the Department of Justice requested voter registration records. Officials will review the order and announce next steps soon — the request was reported on September 11th. FOX13
- ➤ Peter Phillips of Colibri Northwest outlined plans from his Sept. 8 presentation to start a demand study for returning passenger ferry service to South Puget Sound and to explore a local role in manufacturing electric ferries while checking transit connectivity to SeaTac and environmental impacts like shoreline erosion—details of the study will determine which vessel technology best fits local needs. - ➤ The Olympia City Council declared National Voter Registration Day for Sept. 16 to boost voting and defend mail ballots—challenging efforts to restrict access. - ➤ The Olympia City Council approved a resolution to expand the fire department’s CARES program—an initiative that gives post-hospitalization support to seniors and vulnerable adults—by adding a full-time staff position and $121,887 in funding from July through June to help reduce 911 calls and hospital readmissions.
