GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Oct 7, the Olympia City Council voted 4-3 to oppose Proposition 1—an initiative that would change local labor rules on wages, scheduling and safety. Council members said the cost and complexity of the measure could hurt local businesses, and the initiative will appear on the Nov 4 ballot.  JOLT
  • The Olympia Fire Department is marking Fire Prevention Week from Oct. 9 to Oct. 15 with an open house on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its headquarters — 100 Eastside St. NE — where fire safety demos, smoke detector distribution and escape plan guidance will be offered.  JOLT
