- ➤ Heather Pens prepares frittatas with eggs, spinach, onions, red peppers and mushrooms to feed 20 homeless individuals at the Unity Commons Interfaith Works Emergency Overnight Shelter in Olympia—two other cooks are making the same dish so that a total of 60 meals will be delivered today. Pens, a member of the Olympia Friends Meeting, organizes volunteers to serve nutritious, home-cooked meals as a quiet stand against homelessness. JOLT
- ➤ On Oct. 15, the Community Livability and Public Safety Committee recommended renaming three city properties to honor local figures: Yelm Highway Community Park will be renamed Jolene Unsoeld Park, the Olympia Armory will become the Daley Arts Center, and Kaiser Woods Park will be renamed Marj Yung Park. The proposals will go to the city council for final approval while each facility remains in development with expected openings within the next one to two years — a move that highlights the impact of these local leaders.
