EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Olympia School District Board of Directors approved a resolution on Oct. 23 — the measure proposes a $72.9 million technology and capital projects levy that will appear on the Feb. 10 special election ballot. The levy will fund computer technology, staff training, safety improvements and facility upgrades over four school years from 2026-27 through 2030-31.  JOLT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On October 22, the City of Olympia completed a 16-month effort to close the Percival Creek Canyon encampment and placed residents in housing as part of its One Community plan — state funding helped support the move. City officials said challenges with housing options remain and they will develop additional plans to address The Jungle encampment.  JOLT
  • After windy and rainy weather knocked out power lines, thousands in Puget Sound are without power and crews are working to restore service—most customers in Kitsap and King counties will have power today while those in Pierce and Thurston counties may wait until tomorrow or early Wednesday. Several local schools closed or delayed classes because of the outages.  FOX13
