🎭 Culture
The Arts Commission supported a design for Rebecca Howard Park with public art celebrating Black history during a meeting on Thursday, Dec.
12. The plan includes spaces for murals & storytelling events and was shaped by community input from Oct. 2024 to July 2025.
🎓 Education
Centennial Elementary School earned its second Culture Kick-Off Award this year as its inclusive events, including a 'Lights, Camera, Action, Learning' theme and a 'Centennial Stars' wall, promoted belonging.
Superintendent Patrick Murphy announced the honor on Dec. 11 + the school is one of eight statewide to receive the accolade.
🌲 Environment
Thurston County now offers free Christmas tree recycling at several sites from Dec.
26 to Jan. 18. Lacey’s Waste and Recovery Center (open weekdays 7 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.) and drop-off locations in Rainier, Rochester, Tenino and Yelm will serve residents with curbside and scale check requirements.
