Ever wonder what it’s like to be a journalist on the bird beat? Our speaker, George Walter, who writes the “Thurston’s Birds” column in the online newspaper The Jolt will be here to tell us.

With over forty years of experience in bird watching, George Walter has been involved in Washington Big Years as well as the Olympia Christmas Bird Count. In addition to his journalism and birding, George has been working on Nisqually watershed issues since 1977, when Billy Frank first recruited him to help build the environmental side of the Nisqually Indian Tribe’s Natural Resources Department.

In this talk, George will share stories about the challenges of writing a weekly column, illustrated with photos, primarily from Liam Hutcheson, that he includes with every column.

There are two ways to enjoy this program. You can come to Temple Beth Hatfiloh (201 8th Ave. SE, Olympia) to watch the speaker live and enjoy the company of others OR you can register to watch from home via Zoom.

Zoom will start at 7 pm and those coming to the Temple can arrive for social time at 6:30 pm.

Listed by South Sound Bird Alliance (The Events Calendar), gathered by the Olympia events calendar.
