  • Today the Port of Olympia announced plans to partner with the Hands On Children’s Museum to expand its interactive exhibits downtown—an effort that is expected to boost tourism and offer more space for the museum’s 300,000 annual visitors—while strengthening its role as a community hub.  ThurstonTalk
  • Olympia nonprofit Puget Sound Estuarium is seeking new board members to serve three-year terms—applications are accepted on a rolling basis and candidates must send a resume and cover letter to board member Andrea Parish.  JOLT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Michael Day, an Edmonds native and University of Washington graduate, has been named the new chief executive officer at Experience Olympia & Beyond. He plans to boost leisure, meetings & sports tourism in Thurston County using his international hospitality experience.  JOLT

CRIME NEWS

  • Thurston County deputies said Wayne Curry, owner of Kraftwerk K9 off 183rd Avenue Southwest in Rochester, fatally shot his employee during a video shoot using live ammunition—Curry was charged with manslaughter after appearing in Thurston County Court amid witnesses describing chaotic emotions.  FOX13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 4, the Olympia Site Plan Review Committee met to review plans for a new 20,000-square-foot crisis stabilization clinic at 509 McPhee Road SW. The facility will offer 24-hour voluntary behavioral health services (serving about 16 clients) and will require major roadway and parking upgrades as part of its design review and environmental assessment.  JOLT
