CRIME NEWS

  • Thurston County authorities announced that skeletal remains found near Meadows Elementary School in 2009 have been identified as Donald Myrel Nelson—he was reported missing in 1989 and investigators are still looking into his death.  FOX13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Olympia’s Land Use and Environment Committee recommended no changes to the city’s rental housing code on August 28, keeping tenant protections that exceed state rules on rent increases. Council members plan to add clarifying language—helping landlords and tenants understand the current system better.  JOLT

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA announced that about 44,460 shrimp packages are recalled because they may be contaminated with cesium-137, including 18,000 bags of Kroger Mercado Cooked Medium Peeled Tail-Off Shrimp (sold from July 24th to Aug. 11th) and 26,460 packages of cocktail shrimp from Walmart (sold from July 31st to Aug. 16th). Consumers are advised to discard the shrimp or return them for a full refund if purchased.  South Sound News
