If you've been meaning to give to a food drive, Sunday is a good one to pick. Gibson's Custom Meats in Lacey will match every community essential pack bought for donation at its "Pay It Forward" event, marking the program's first year.

Each pack is 5 pounds of staple proteins. The shop recently raised its price because of rising wholesale meat costs.

  • When: Sun., Nov. 8, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Where: 7912 Martin Way E, Lacey
  • Match: 1-for-1 on every pack bought for donation
  • Price: $19 a pack, up from $16.99

Over the past 12 months, the program has donated more than 2,200 packs to local families facing food insecurity.

“With our 1-for-1 match, every single contribution will go twice as far in putting high-quality, fresh meals on the tables of neighbors who need it most.”

Chris Calloway, Gibson's head butcher

The Wrap

Cheesecake on a stick has a new plan. The Nom Nom Stop, a five-year-old Lacey-based sweets business, won't renew its College Street storefront lease and will go mobile after the end of the year. It's launching three food trucks, and the last truck will serve espresso, coffee and specialty drinks. Sweet things on wheels.
